Single Vineyard Wines: Why Does It Matter?

Wine labels sometimes feature the term Single Vineyard. It means that the grapes used to produce the wine were harvested from one specific vineyard rather than blended from vineyards across different locations. Even neighboring plots can differ in soil composition, sun exposure, elevation, and microclimate. All these factors influence grape ripening and the characteristics of the resulting wine.

This is how terroir comes into play: the combination of natural conditions and cultivation practices that shape a wine’s character. For example, the same grape variety grown in different plots can produce wines with varying acidity, aromatic profiles, and structure.
