In ancient times, wine was sometimes mixed with seawater. It may sound strange, but there was a reason behind it. The salt helped the drink last longer, while also giving it a more unusual flavor: slightly salty, richer, and more complex with spicy notes.

Today, some winemakers still experiment with seawater or aging wine near the sea, but no longer for survival — rather, to create a distinctive character and unique taste.
